Who we are

The Dandenong Presbyterian Church is a rich mixture of people from many different nations and cultural backgrounds, from the very young to the very old.

Together we worship God with the desire to bring glory and honour to Him through Jesus Christ, his Son.

We are Presbyterian

The word Presbyterian comes from a New Testament word meaning ‘elder’ or ‘overseer’. Our church is governed in its spiritual life and the spiritual oversight of its members by the elders in our congregation. This is in conformity with what the New Testament teaches about who should rule and govern in the church. (Acts 14:23, 15:4; Titus 1:5; 1 Peter 5:3)

We are Reformed

The Presbyterian church is a reformed denomination, meaning that the theology and doctrine of the reformation and the reformers is the doctrine and theology of the Presbyterian church.

The supreme standard of our church is the Bible, the word of God, the Old and New Testaments.

The subordinate standard of the our church is the Westminster Confession of Faith (our common understanding of what the Scriptures teach), plus the larger and shorter catechisms of the Westminster Assembly.

We are not reformed only in our faith; we are also reformed in our practice. As a church and as individual Christians, we desire to live a life worthy of the calling we have received in Christ, both privately in our homes and families and also publicly in our church and workplace, or wherever God has called us to be.

Our reformed faith and practice also regulates and directs our church worship. We will not worship God in any way other than the way he has commanded worship to be given to Him. Our worship services contain songs of praise, reading the word of God, prayers of confession, pastoral prayer and a strong emphasis on the preaching of God’s word, in order to teach, instruct, edify, encourage and build up the believer in their faith and life, and to glorify God.
